The Fractured Wetlands of Mortmyre, a ravaged nation, lies scarred and toxic, its landscape fractured by chasms spewing noxious waste. This unforgiving environment is home to the XANDER model of Greyforged (though some other models also now call this nation home too), resilient and unyielding beings who have claimed Mortmyre as their own. Greyrot, the capital city, stands as a testament to their ingenuity, built upon a labyrinthine network of elevated walkways and makeshift bridges that navigate the treacherous terrain.
Mortmyre's twisted geography is marked by the Chasm Rifts, toxic waste-spewing fissures that crisscross the land, and the Mirefens, treacherous acidic wetlands hiding hidden dangers. Yet, amidst this desolation, lie veins of gold, scattered throughout the Goldseams – prized mines that fuel the Greyforged industries and forge unyielding warriors. The Shattered Spires, jagged rock formations and remnants of ancient mountains, punctuate the horizon, a reminder of Mortmyre's tumultuous past.
Despite the harsh conditions, the Greyforged thrive, harnessing Mortmyre's resources to power their innovative technologies and construct imposing fortresses. Their mastery of alchemy and engineering has allowed them to adapt to this unforgiving environment, transforming toxic waste into usable resources. As a result, Mortmyre has become a hub of industrial activity, with the Greyforged continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this unforgiving yet valuable land.

Every region's Underdark is distinctly different, reflecting the surface world’s influence above—but none compare to the enigmatic depths beneath the Fractured Wetlands of Mortmyre. While some other Underdark realms may consist of predictable caverns and tunnels, the Mortmyre Underdark is an ever-shifting maze that some claim defies natural space and time, possibly existing within its own pocket dimension. Twisting corridors wind endlessly through glowing walls of bioluminescent fungi, jagged crystal outcroppings, and pools of oozing magical liquid. The tunnels expand into sprawling subterranean cities and forgotten villages, their inhabitants thriving amidst chaotic energies. Strange phenomena—such as temporal rifts, spatial anomalies, and arcane surges—are common, making exploration perilous even for seasoned adventurers. The Mortmyre Underdark is a realm of wonder and dread, where secrets of the Sundering lie buried and every turn could lead to discovery—or doom.

One of the most treacherous Chasm Rifts in Mortmyre, is a gargantuan fissure spewing forth a noxious cocktail of toxic gases, acidic waste, and burning oils. This churning abyss stretches over 5 miles wide and 10 miles long, its depths shrouded in a perpetual, eerie mist. The chasm's rim is surrounded by the Toxic Mire, a deadly expanse of acidic sludge and waste that threatens to dissolve even the hardiest armor and flesh.
At its heart lies the Burning Falls, a breathtaking cascade of ignited oil and gas that pours into the chasm's depths, casting flickering shadows on the surrounding rocks. Geysers of compressed steam and toxic gas, known as the Screaming Vents, erupt sporadically from the chasm's floor, shattering the air with deafening shrieks. These unpredictable explosions make navigation perilous, even for the Greyforged.
Despite the dangers, the Maelstrom Chasm holds significant importance for the Greyforged. Engineers and prospectors brave the chasm to harvest rare, toxic materials essential for their industries. Some Warforged factions believe the chasm holds ancient secrets and powers, drawing them to perform ritualistic ceremonies and expeditions into its depths. The Maelstrom Chasm's unforgiving environment has become a crucible, forging the Greyforged's unyielding spirit and innovative prowess.
The Shattered Abyss is a colossal, jagged rift in the earth that splits the Fractured Wetlands of Mortmyre, stretching for miles in all directions. Its origin dates back to a time long before the creation of the Greyforged, to an ancient civilization of Goliath giants known as the Onk'Tharr, whose empire once spanned the entire region. The Onk'Tharr were skilled in both mighty stonework and powerful divine magic, believing themselves as rightful equals to the gods.
As the Onk'Tharr’s power grew, they began to challenge the gods themselves, attempting to overthrow their divine reign in an effort to claim dominion over the heavens and the earth. In response, the gods unleashed their wrath, and a cataclysmic war ensued, shaking the very foundations of the world.
At the climax of this divine conflict, the Onk'Tharr attempted a final, desperate ritual to ascend to godhood, but their ambitions were crushed when the gods, in a show of overwhelming power, shattered the earth beneath them. A violent rift tore open the land, consuming the Onk'Tharr cities and scattering their civilization into ruin. The resulting explosion of energy cracked the earth and released arcane fallout that forever poisoned the land.
The chasm itself is a monument to that lost civilization—a reminder of the gods’ vengeance and the Goliaths’ failed ambition. Over millennia, it has become a twisted place of both beauty and danger, where remnants of the Onk'Tharr’s civilization and their divine powers still linger in corrupted forms.
The Wounded Springs, scattered across the western reaches of the Fractured Wetlands of Mortmyre, stretch inland from the coastline for about 100 miles. These vivid red springs, named for their resemblance to raw, open wounds in the earth, are rich in Crimson Vitae—a rare and invaluable oil. This oil serves a practical purpose for the Greyforged, providing a protective coating that prevents rust and enhances the shine of their metallic forms. Though Crimson Vitae is not essential for their survival, it is crucial for maintaining their craftsmanship and physical integrity in Mortmyre’s harsh and corrosive environment.
The striking crimson hue of the springs is the result of a rare fusion of magical and mineral properties inherent to the fractured wetlands. Often surrounded by shimmering crystalline formations, the springs create an otherworldly contrast to the chaotic and rugged landscape. For the Greyforged, the Wounded Springs are more than a practical resource—they are a symbol of resilience and adaptation, representing their ability to endure and thrive in one of Luminaria’s most treacherous regions. This harmonious relationship between the Greyforged and the magical essence of the land underscores their unique place in Mortmyre’s ecosystem.
The Green Honey Bee, is a bee species that thrives in toxic environments. These iridescent yellow striped bees have an iridescent green patch on their backs and have evolved to harness the Poison Thistleblossom's toxic nectar, converting it into a medicinal green honey. Their enlarged honey stomach and specialized proboscis enable toxin breakdown, while their waxy coat and solitude foraging minimize exposure.
The Green Honey Bee's green honey boasts antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antidotal properties, making it highly prized for healing and culinary uses. Trained apiarists carefully harvest this rare resource. Mythology links these bees to fertility, healing and protection deities, crediting nature spirits with their creation to balance the Poison Thistleblossom's darkness.
