In Luminaria, all dragons descend from the four Elder Dragons: Veles, Emori’a, Dracul, and Lithe. Over time, their offspring evolved into Gemstone Dragons, beings of immense power tied to the natural and arcane forces of the world.
However, with the corruption of Dracul, a darker path was forged. His influence led to the creation of Corrupted Gemstone Dragons, twisted aberrations of their once-pure forms, embodying destruction, death, and dark magic.
The Gemstone Dragons are each tied to a specific region, element, and breath weapon. They are powerful beings, some of whom watch over their lands as protectors, while others remain isolated or elusive.
TYPES OF GEMSTONE DRAGONS
Native Region: The Frostheim Expanse
Breath Weapon: A blast of freezing sapphire mist, capable of encasing foes in solid ice.
Appearance: Deep blue, crystalline scales that shimmer like ice in moonlight.
Personality: Solitary, aloof, and highly territorial. Sapphire Dragons are known to lurk beneath frozen lakes or within glacial caverns, rarely seen except during times of great conflict. They are wise and patient, but can be ruthless when provoked.
Notable Figures: Varkul the Everfrost, a reclusive dragon rumored to have frozen an entire valley in a single breath.
Native Region: The Misthallow Marsh
Breath Weapon: A cloud of virulent green mist, capable of dissolving armor, weapons, and flesh alike.
Appearance: Iridescent emerald-green scales, resembling moss-covered gemstones.
Personality: Clever, secretive, and cunning. Emerald Dragons prefer subtlety over brute force, often manipulating events from the shadows rather than engaging in direct combat. Many dwell deep within the marshes, their lairs hidden by dense fog and treacherous terrain.
Notable Figures: Sithari the Whispering Veil, said to have orchestrated an entire war between rival kingdoms without ever being seen.
Native Region: The Gorvothkur Dominion
Breath Weapon: A torrent of molten flame, burning with the intensity of a volcanic eruption.
Appearance: Fiery red scales that glow like embers, with veins of molten gold running beneath.
Personality: Fierce, aggressive, and domineering. Ruby Dragons thrive in the volcanic wastelands of Gorvothkur, their temperaments as unstable as the eruptions that shape their homeland. They are known for hoarding enchanted weapons and relics of war, favoring strength over wisdom.
Notable Figures: Kael’Rath the Ashen Tyrant, a warlord dragon who once commanded an entire legion of fire giants.
Native Region: The Sunscorched Badlands
Breath Weapon: A blinding burst of radiant energy, capable of disintegrating darkness and searing enemies with celestial fire.
Appearance: Luminous white scales that refract light in dazzling prismatic hues.
Personality: Noble, proud, and often revered as holy beings. Diamond Dragons are symbols of wisdom and judgment, acting as guardians of ancient ruins and sacred sites. They are the rarest of the Gemstone Dragons and are often mistaken for celestial beings.
Notable Figures: Solrion the Dawnbringer, rumored to have purged an entire army of undead with a single breath.
Native Region: The Queendom of Hillsburrow
Breath Weapon: A wave of violet energy, sapping the life force of all in its path and withering plants and creatures alike.
Appearance: Deep purple scales, shifting between light and darkness as if infused with shadow.
Personality: Mysterious, introspective, and deeply tied to the cycle of life and death. Amethyst Dragons are guardians of forgotten knowledge, and some mortals seek them out to learn the secrets of the afterlife. Unlike Corrupted Dragons, their necrotic power is not inherently evil, but rather a natural force of entropy.
Notable Figures: Nyxaria the Twilight Seer, said to foresee the deaths of kings and heroes before they occur.
Native Region: The Red Rock Canyon
Breath Weapon: A crackling arc of golden lightning, capable of shattering stone and electrifying entire battlefields.
Appearance: Golden-yellow scales that flicker with electric energy, occasionally sparking when they move.
Personality: Restless, unpredictable, and fiercely independent. Citrine Dragons are nomadic by nature, rarely staying in one place for long. They are drawn to storms, battles, and high-energy environments, making their homes in the rocky cliffs and mesas of Red Rock Canyon.
Notable Figures: Jorvex the Thunderheart, a dragon worshipped as a storm god by a tribe of nomads.
Native Region: The Tzardom of Ashenstead
Breath Weapon: A chaotic surge of elemental energy, shifting unpredictably between radiant, fire, and lightning damage. The exact element is determined at the moment of attack, making their power unpredictable and devastating. In rare cases, they can unleash all three elements simultaneously, though this leaves them momentarily drained.
Appearance: Their scales constantly shift colors, reflecting the full spectrum of light, never settling on a single hue. As they move, they leave behind trails of shimmering aurora-like light, and their wings crackle with bursts of flame, lightning, and celestial radiance. Their eyes are featureless pools of swirling energy, reflecting the chaotic magic they embody.
Personality: Elusive, enigmatic, and ever-changing. Prismatic Dragons are highly intelligent but unpredictable, sometimes acting as oracles of fate, other times as agents of chaos. Unlike other dragons, they rarely remain in one place, instead wandering Luminaria in search of places where elemental magic is strongest.
