Father of Vampires
Father of Lycans
A Tale of Two Brothers
Two elven brothers, Thane and Kael, were celebrated in Erebus for their extraordinary magical talents. Revered for their groundbreaking advancements in spellcraft and alchemy, they were seen as the future of arcane innovation in the ancient city.
Thane, driven by a noble desire to heal the world’s suffering, devoted himself to unraveling the mysteries of life and death, believing immortality and the eradication of disease were within reach.
Kael, motivated by a fierce determination to protect the innocent, sought mastery over transformation and strength, hoping to create a means to shield the weak from harm.
Their shared ambition led them to the city's forbidden archives, where they unearthed a forgotten tome of immense power. Penned by a long-lost deity, the ancient text whispered promises of unparalleled strength and eternal life.
The Catastrophic Ritual
Ignoring the dire warnings etched into its pages, the brothers performed the ritual detailed within the tome. Combining their magic in an unprecedented display of skill and power, they inadvertently tore through the fabric of reality.
The Blood Devourer, a parasitic entity from the underworld, emerged from the rift. Sensing Thane’s obsession with life and death, it bonded with him, transforming him into the first vampire. His soul became bound to darkness, granting him immortality at the cost of an insatiable thirst for mortal blood.
The Lunar Scourge, a primal force tied to Luminaria’s moons, answered Kael’s call for strength and resilience. It consumed him, turning him into the first lycanthrope. His form and mind were forever bound to the cycles of the moons, making him a feral creature of unmatched power and rage.
The Aftermath of Their Transformation
The ritual left Erebus in chaos. The brothers, once bound by shared purpose, became monstrous adversaries. Thane, consumed by his hunger, preyed upon the mortals of Erebus, while Kael, struggling to control his feral instincts, turned on his brother. Their conflict further destabilized the city, spreading fear and destruction.
Over time, their rivalry grew, and they became natural enemies, vying for survival and dominance over the same mortal food sources. Unable to reconcile their cursed natures, they went their separate ways.
Kael, seeking to escape his brother and the devastation they had wrought, fled northeast by ship to the eastern lands.
Thane, burdened by his immortality, remained in the south-central continent, haunting the ruins of Erebus and the lands surrounding it. However, during the chaos of the Sundering, rumors emerged of his migration to the northern continent, seeking refuge in its shadowed regions.
A Cautionary Legend
The story of Thane and Kael became a tragic legend, a dire warning to all who dared tamper with forces beyond mortal comprehension. Erebus, once a beacon of arcane brilliance, was left in ruin, its downfall a precursor to the Sundering that would follow centuries later.
While their ultimate fates remain shrouded in mystery, the twin curses of vampirism and lycanthropy continue to plague the world, immortal reminders of the brothers’ hubris and the cost of forbidden power.
